SKY CONFIRM: “Rangers vs Celtic” Match Not to Be Televised Due to Contractual Restrictions

Sky Sports has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated Rangers vs Celtic clash will not be televised live in the UK, citing contractual limitations as the reason. Despite being one of the biggest fixtures in Scottish football, the upcoming Old Firm derby falls outside of the maximum number of games Sky is permitted to broadcast under its current agreement with the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL).

The broadcasting deal between Sky and the SPFL restricts the number of live matches per season to 48, and unfortunately, this Old Firm match does not fall within that quota. This decision has sparked frustration among fans, especially those unable to attend the match at Ibrox.

A Sky Sports spokesperson stated: “While we understand the importance of this fixture, we are bound by the terms of our contract with the SPFL. We will, however, provide comprehensive coverage across our digital platforms.”

With the derby set to play a pivotal role in the title race, the lack of live television access is a major disappointment to supporters and has renewed calls for increased broadcast access to Scottish football’s biggest matches.
