SKY CONFIRM: “Brighton vs Newcastle United” Match Not to Be Televised Due to Broadcast Restrictions

Sky Sports has confirmed that the upcoming Premier League clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United will not be televised in the UK, citing broadcast rights limitations. Despite high anticipation surrounding the fixture, the match falls into the traditional Saturday 3pm blackout slot, a regulation designed to encourage attendance at live games across the football pyramid.

The decision has disappointed fans of both clubs, particularly Newcastle supporters who were hoping to watch their team’s performance away from home. With both sides battling for European qualification, the match promises to be a crucial encounter, but UK-based supporters will be forced to follow updates through radio commentary, club channels, or post-match highlights.

A Sky Sports spokesperson explained: “Due to existing Premier League broadcasting agreements, not all matches can be shown live. Unfortunately, Brighton vs Newcastle has not been selected for live coverage.” The blackout rule has long been a point of debate, with growing calls for reform in the digital era.

International viewers will still be able to watch the match live through licensed broadcasters, leaving UK fans once again questioning the fairness and modern relevance of current TV regulations.
