The newest Championship team to be linked to Leicester City’s Tom Cannon is Luton Town. However,

despite having a rough start to the 2024–25 Championship season, the Hatters have been cautioned not to plan a possible move.

Of the three teams that were demoted from the Premier League right away the previous season, Rob Edwards’ team could have looked the healthiest.

But the team that was hoping to be promoted lost a lot of games during their preseason, and they were humiliated 4-1 at home by Burnley to start their Championship campaign.

They fell 1-0 away to Preston North End on Saturday afternoon and battled out a 0-0 draw away to newly promoted Portsmouth, making them one of only six teams left unbeaten in league play after three gameweeks.

With just one league goal to date, Luton has compiled an xG of 4.0, the 10th-highest in the league, so there is reasonable cause for concern at Kenilworth Road.

Considering that Edwards has Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo at his disposal—both of whom scored double figures in goals in the Premier League the previous season—their early-season struggles in front of goal have caught him off guard.Luton has reportedly joined Sheffield United and Stoke City in the competition for Cannon, who is reportedly available for £7 million after losing favor with Foxes manager Steve Cooper, according to a recent story from The Sun’s Alan Nixon, which was obtained via Patreon.

After leaving Everton a year ago, the striker has had difficulty adjusting to life at King Power Stadium. However, it looks as though he may soon return to the Championship after receiving attention from many lower-division teams throughout the summer.

Luton Town issued a warning about moving Tom Cannon.
Luton is currently having a terrible time in the last third of the game, as its misfiring forwards, midfield, and wide players have not provided much of a danger.

Though there is merit to the striker’s qualifications considering how desirable he seems to be in the Championship market, Football League World analyst Finley Cannon, a native Hatters supporter, has advised Luton not to pursue him.”It’s a really odd player for Luton to be linked with considering the calibre of strikers we’ve already got [in] the likes of Carlton Morris, Elijah Adebayo and Joe Taylor,” Finley stated to Football League World.

“Despite playing for a very strong Leicester team last season, his goal record isn’t terrific. I’m not sure how much he brings to Luton’s attack—he only scored two goals in the league and one in the cup.

“His physical profile is quite similar to the players we currently have, and the price tag for a player who is relatively inexperienced and not very productive at this level would be high.”

“Even though it seems like we are having trouble scoring right now, I don’t think the attackers’ inability to finish is to blame. I don’t think we’re giving them enough chances to finish, and I doubt that adding a second striker with a similar profile would improve things.”

Tom Cannon of Leicester City would not be a fit for Luton Town.

It is important to note that Cannon’s time with Leicester may not be the best indicator of his true goal-scoring potential because plenty of opportunities have come at a real premium, and his time on loan at Preston gives us a better idea of what he can really offer in this division. It is therefore understandable why Cannon seems to be being pursued by a number of Championship clubs, but Luton really shouldn’t be one of them.

Given their respective successes in the top division, Adebayo and Morris have a chance to score more than 20 goals this season if they receive enough support from players like Alfie Doughty, Tahith Chong, and Chiedozie Ogbene.
