“The players deserve it too because they’ve been through a lot as well.

Maher: “I think everyone went through an emotional roller-coaster on Thursday night but that’s football.

Maher: “When you’ve been in the game this long you generally have an intuition of how the game might pan out and what it might look like.
“You want your subs to make an impact and sometimes it is different to starting than coming on.
“The subs we made Thursday worked but sometimes they don’t work and that’s football.
“That’s the life of a manager and you can’t get everything right.
“You make decisions on your experience and knowledge of what the game might look like.”

How’s James Morton?
Maher: “He’s still not been back training on the grass at the minute.
“The report we got back said it would take a certain number of weeks.
“Incorporated within that is the time he’s already missed so it’s on a day by day basis at the moment really.
“We’re taking it slowly with him and he’s getting closer to coming back all the time.
“In terms of joining in with the group he hasn’t done that yet.”
