SKY CONFIRM: “Everton vs Southampton” Match Not to Be Televised Due to Broadcast Restrictions
Sky Sports has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated Championship clash between Everton and Southampton will not be televised live in the UK. The decision stems from the traditional Saturday 3pm broadcast blackout rule, which restricts live television coverage of matches played during this time to protect lower-league attendances.
Despite strong interest from fans, especially given both clubs’ recent Premier League histories, the fixture falls within the restricted time slot and therefore cannot be shown live. Sky Sports will instead provide highlights and post-match analysis later in the evening.
Everton and Southampton supporters have expressed frustration on social media, calling for changes to outdated broadcast regulations, especially for high-profile matches. However, unless fixture times are altered, fans will have to follow the match via live radio commentary or in-stadium attendance. Sky reiterated its commitment to adhering to all current EFL broadcasting agreements.
