SKY CONFIRM: Sunderland in Serious Talks with Coventry for Ellis Simms

Sky Sports has confirmed that Sunderland are locked in serious transfer negotiations with Coventry City over the potential signing of striker Ellis Simms. The 23-year-old forward, who previously enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Stadium of Light during the 2022/23 season, has emerged as a top target for the Black Cats this summer.

Sunderland are believed to be pushing for a deal as they aim to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new Championship campaign. Simms, currently contracted to Coventry City, scored 13 goals last season and has proven himself as a physical, goal-scoring presence in the final third—traits that Sunderland are eager to bring back.

Talks between the two clubs are understood to be at an advanced stage, though no fee has been officially agreed yet. Coventry, while reluctant to lose a key asset, may consider a sale if Sunderland meet their valuation, reportedly in the region of £5 million.

Simms is said to be open to the move, with personal terms unlikely to be a stumbling block. Sunderland fans will be watching closely as the club attempts to re-sign a player who made a strong impact during his previous stint.
