SKY CONFIRM: “Sunderland vs QPR” Match Not to Be Televised Due to Broadcast Priorities

Sky Sports has officially confirmed that the upcoming Championship clash between Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers will not be televised live, despite growing anticipation from fans of both clubs. The decision comes as part of the broadcaster’s scheduling policy, which prioritizes games with higher viewership potential or those that significantly impact promotion and relegation races.

While the fixture promises competitive action and a large stadium crowd at the Stadium of Light, Sky has instead opted to feature other matches during the same broadcast window. These selected games are deemed to hold greater national interest or feature clubs in tighter battles for automatic promotion or playoff contention.

Fans have voiced frustration over the lack of coverage, particularly given Sunderland’s strong home support and QPR’s recent surge in form. However, the EFL’s current TV rights agreement gives broadcasters considerable discretion in choosing matches, often based on commercial appeal and scheduling logistics.

Supporters unable to attend in person will still have access to live radio commentary and post-match highlights. The decision serves as a reminder of the ongoing debate surrounding TV access and fairness in EFL coverage.
