Jhon Duran, a former cardiff city target, has been rewarded for his strong start to the season with a new contract at Aston Villa, the club has confirmed.

The 20-year-old forward is proving to be a great acquisition for Villa. He arrived from Chicago Fire in January 2023 for a little under £15 million. Duran has really established himself this season, having spent his first eighteen months with the club settling in and patiently waiting behind Ollie Watkins, the team’s first-choice striker.

This season, the Colombian has made a big impression on the world, and his goals against Liverpool at the close of the previous campaign may have been a sign of things to come. Duran has scored six goals in ten games this season, five of which have come from substitute appearances. Duran has eight goals in 37 appearances for Villa in all competitions, including one last week in the Champions League victory over Bayern Munich.

In the EFL Cup, he has also scored against Wycombe Wanderers, West Ham, Leicester, Everton, and Wolves, laying the groundwork for a successful campaign. Duran was rumored to be willing to leaving Villa after a turbulent summer, with West Ham and Chelsea expressing interest.

Although Chelsea had communicated with Duran’s representatives, the team ultimately decided against making a summer transfer.

After winning back the fans’ favor with his goals and performances, he signed a long-term contract with the team that will last until 2030.
