When Ipswich Town visits the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon for a Premier League match, they will be hoping to take advantage of West Ham United’s recent setbacks.

The Tractor Boys easily defeated the Hammers 5-1 at home in the Championship, marking the first meeting between the two teams since January 2012.

With just two wins in his first eight games in command of West Ham across all competitions and no wins in the Hammers’ previous five games, pressure is starting to build on new head coach Julen Lopetegui.

After losing to Liverpool (5-1) in the EFL Cup and Chelsea (3-0) in a seven-day span at the end of September, West Ham managed to salvage a point last weekend at Brentford in a 1-1 draw, with Tomas Soucek’s second-half goal negating Bryan Mbeumo’s opening 38 seconds.

Although Lopetegui was happy with his team’s response after giving up a goal so early in the contest, Hammers fans are expecting more from their organization given that they invested over £120 million on nine new first-team players during the summer.

With only five points from their first six Premier League games, West Ham is currently languishing in 14th place in the standings, two points above the bottom three and six points behind the top six. This is the fifth time in the last nine seasons that they have finished with this few points or fewer.

The Hammers, who are attempting to avoid losing their first four home games in the top division of a season, have a respectable record against Ipswich this Saturday, having only lost one of their last nine Premier League encounters.

The guy in the middle for Saturday’s Premier League game at home against Ipswich Town will undoubtedly be Anthony Taylor.

One of England’s most seasoned referees, Taylor has officiated top-tier matches since 2010. He has officiated the FA Community Shield, two FA Cup finals, an EFL Cup final, the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup final, the 2023 UEFA Europa League final, and, on an international level, the 2021

France and Spain will compete in the UEFA Nations League final. In 2020, while officiating Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Chelsea, Taylor made history as the first referee to officiate two FA Cup finals since 1901.

Taylor was born in Wythenshawe, Manchester, and began his career in the seventh division of English football, the Northern Premier League, before working his way up to the Premier League. Since taking charge of a match between Portsmouth and Fulham in February 2010, he has officiated 376 Premier League games.

The 45-year-old is also known for his lightning-fast reflexes, which are credited with saving the life of Manchester United player Christian Eriksen when he fainted during Denmark’s UEFA Euro 2020 group-stage match against Finland.
