With the upcoming international break, West Brom will have a chance to shift their attention from on-field issues.
Despite losing their past two games, West Brom has had a great start to the campaign.
The Baggies had experienced victories before losing quickly after. They lost to Sheffield Wednesday the previous weekend, and on Tuesday night they were defeated by Middlesbrough again thanks to a goal from Hayden Hackney.
At The Hawthorns, Carlos Corberan and company will have a chance to resume winning ways before to the international break when Millwall visits. When there aren’t any games, though, members of the club should be keeping an eye on other things.
Contracts are one topic that can come up, and the West Brom star Darnell Furlong’s deal should be a priority for the club administration.
A pillar of the starting XI
Furlong has been a member of West Brom for more than five years. The defender, who was born in Luton, gained admission at The Hawthorns in the summer of 2019 after excelling in the QPR academy.
Since then, he has played in the Premier League and the Championship, scoring 10 goals and dishing out 11 assists in 209 games for the Baggies. This season, Furlong has made eight of those appearances while playing every minute in the second division.
Furlong played in all 46 Championship games last season too, sitting out of the starting XI for only two. Because of his availability, Corberan finds him to be a very dependable player.
As a result, when rumors circulated that West Brom would consider selling him in the summer, many took notice. Although such an exodus never happened, the club has effectively put the earlier rumors to rest by locking down Furlong’s future with a new contract after they surfaced and following his deal in the last 12 months.
Meritorious of a bargain
The greatest talent is the one who is available, and as Furlong is a valuable member of the West Brom team and a steady performer, few will argue against the Championship club offering him a new contract.
The goal is promotion, and Furlong’s experience in the Premier League will help the Baggies if they are successful in achieving that goal.
