Viktor Gyokeres, a former transfer target for Leeds United, is reportedly being considered by Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
During the 2022–2023 season, when Gyokeres was dominating the Championship with Coventry City, Leeds was strongly connected to the player. Many teams were rumored to be pursuing him, including West Ham United and Everton.
Nevertheless, in order to complete a transfer to Sporting Lisbon, the Sweden international relocated abroad in the summer of 2023.
Although it has turned out to be money well spent, Sporting had to pay a club record transfer price to get the forward from Coventry.
The 26-year-old has scored 52 goals in 58 games for the Portuguese powerhouse, emerging as one of Europe’s most potent strikers.
Gyokeres is still available for Chelsea to use in order to improve their attack, according to CaughtOffside. Meanwhile, Tottenham is thought to be the Premier League team expressing the greatest interest.
Gyokeres has a €100 million (£84 million) release clause, so any team hoping to wrest him away from Sporting would probably have to make a hefty financial commitment. The 26-year-old is reportedly admired by Paris Saint-Germain of France as well. Earlier this year, he was connected to Arsenal, a team that is vying for the Premier League championship.
Leeds made significant offensive investments in 2023 even though Gyokeres was not signed. They signed Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim for a club record £35 million, and they then sold him to Brighton & Hove Albion for a £40 million sum.
Following the club’s relegation to the Championship, a deal to recruit Joel Piroe from Swansea City for an estimated £12m was agreed.
