This weekend, Leeds United will host Coventry City at Elland Road.
Jamie Allen’s availability for Coventry City’s trip to Leeds United on Saturday is a worry, as the midfielder hobbled off during the first half of their 2-1 loss to Swansea City.
After collapsing and being evaluated on the field, Allen was forced off the field after just 23 minutes, to be replaced by Victor Torp. Although the 29-year-old could support his own weight, he had to leave the CBS Arena using crutches and wearing a leg brace on his right knee.
Allen is currently a serious doubt for this weekend’s match at Elland Road. Additional evaluation, including a full scan, will be conducted later this week. With Josh Eccles and Torp the only completely fit senior midfielders for the Robins, Ben Sheaf is still recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the preseason.
Robins described Allen’s injury to Coventry Live, saying, “He had to come off because he got a knee ligament injury.” He bent it. We’re hoping it’s not a very major knee issue, but I’m not sure how bad it is yet.
Allen’s injury, which occurred in between goals from Liam Cullen and Oli Cooper for Swansea, added salt to the Coventry wounds from the first half. Despite the own goal that gave the home team a point back, Robins was not pleased with his team’s performance. After replacing attacker Haji Wright at halftime, he observed minimal progress in the subsequent forty-five-minute period.
Even by their own standards, Coventry was supposed to be in the hunt for the play-off spots by May, but they have struggled, winning just one of their last six games. Furthermore, Robins has expressed dissatisfaction with certain players’ performance levels and seems to be doubting their dedication.
The time is now to subscribe to Graham Smyth’s Inside Elland Road, which provides unparalleled and comprehensive coverage of Leeds United.
Robins continued, “One or two seem like they are really struggling all of a sudden, and that doesn’t make sense.” It’s not like us, and it’s one of those situations where I find it difficult to go on and chalk it up to experience. There were certain aspects that were obviously off with one or two people. Thus, we must investigate that thoroughly.
“As an athlete, football player, or sportsman, you must first and foremost demonstrate that devotion. It’s absolutely important to demonstrate your devotion, and today it was missing in a few places. Furthermore, that has nothing to do with the physical aspect of it. It’s not a physical aspect because you can still attempt it even if you go slowly or don’t make it.
I’m sort of trying not to embarrass people right now because there’s obviously something wrong, but not to move, to be frozen, and to be totally out of the game. However, I need to investigate something more with one or two people.
Leeds, who defeated 10-man Cardiff City 2-0 to get back on track, will host Coventry at Elland Road. Joel Piroe and Largie Ramazani scored goals for the Whites, but manager Daniel Farke was a little harsh in his press conference after the game.
Leeds’ difficult schedule begins with the match against Coventry. The team’s remaining games are against Norwich City, Sunderland, Sheffield United, and Watford within the next month.
