With just 11 new players joining the squad during the transfer season, Nottingham Forest experienced a welcome change of pace.
On the other hand, the Reds were able to ship out 24 players, including out-of-contract players and loans that went back to their parent clubs.
There won’t be as much of a “bomb squad” this season as there has been in the past because to the club’s excellent efforts.
Most importantly, Forest kept all three of their best players on Trentside: Callum Hudson-Odoi, Murillo, and Morgan Gibbs-White.
On deadline day, Newcastle attempted a late bid for Anthony Elanga, but Forest was able to repel the Magpies’ interest.
Neco Williams was another athlete that attracted some interest; Atalanta made an attempt to sign him, but it seems they weren’t the only ones.
John Percy claims that Nottingham Forest player Neco Williams was coveted by Aston Villa.
With enormous shoes to fill, the Wales international signed a £17 million contract to join Forest from Liverpool in the summer of 2022.
Williams was the guy assigned to cover for Djed Spence, as Forest was aware that a permanent signing of the player was not possible.
He was frequently forced to play second fiddle to Serge Aurier during his first season at Forest, but he did demonstrate his potential in the previous campaign.
According to John Percy, a Telegraph writer, a Champions League team was eager to capture the player who sparked attention this summer.
He stated, “It was West Ham being linked, wasn’t it?” on the Forest Focus podcast. When that story broke, I was in Spain; I’m not sure if it was that serious, but it was shortly taken down.
“I am aware that Aston Villa was considering him as a potential option very early in the window, but that clearly didn’t work out either.
It simply goes to show how well regarded he is as a Premier League player; all he needs to do is continue to be reliable, and I think he’ll be OK.
Forest-wise, to maintain Williams
Forest made the right decision in sticking with the £27 million value, even though Williams hasn’t had an especially strong start to the current campaign.
The Reds need to make it a practice to stick up for the team’s best players, and this is unquestionably a wise move.
However, Williams needs to get better. With so many alternatives available to him at full-back right now, he’ll want to get going full speed as the 2024–2025 season develops.
Because he is still young, the 23-year-old can afford a brief spell of patchy performance.
The player’s current task is to maintain composure, put in more effort, and begin developing on both ends of the field when he does play for Forest.
