Everton unlikely to sign Leeds United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat
Everton are looking to bring in a new midfielder to Goodison Park before the transfer deadline on Friday.
The Toffees have been linked with several names so far, including Leeds United star Sofyan Amrabat.
However, the Daily Mirror (August 29, Page 59) are reporting the Merseyside outfit are unlikely to sign the 28-year-old this week.
It is said that they are instead likely to complete a move for Orel Mangala on a loan-to-buy deal from Lyon.
Amrabat, who was labelled as a ‘world-class‘ player by Morocco manager Walid Regragui, spent last season on loan at Manchester United.
The midfielder had a difficult introduction to Premier League football but impressed with his performances in the final four matches, including the FA Cup final victory against Manchester City.
United decided not to trigger the purchase option but Everton’s interest suggested the 28-year-old could return to England this season.
However, a move to Goodison Park now looks unlikely as the Toffees are close to signing Orel Mangala.
Mangala joined Lyon on loan in January and struck two goals in eight Ligue 1 appearances.
The French club signed him on a permanent deal in July but they are now prepared to offload him before the transfer deadline.
Lyon are planning to reduce their wage bill after their heavy spending this summer. Mangala is not in Pierre Sage’s plans and so they are open to cash in on the Belgian.
The 26-year-old could be a good signing for Everton as he has previous experience of playing in the Premier League. He is also praised for his good understanding and reading of the game.
