Before Saturday’s Premier League trip to Crystal Palace, head coach Julen Lopetegui is happy with Edson Álvarez’s progress in his injury rehabilitation.
The Mexico international Álvarez missed the Hammers’ preseason game against Aston Villa last weekend due to a hamstring injury he suffered during the Copa América competition earlier in the summer.
The 26-year-old, who joined the Club from Ajax just over a year ago, is still working to add to his 42 Claret and Blue appearances. However, manager Lopetegui made a hint that the status of a few additional players will be revealed on Friday.
“After a prolonged absence, Álvarez is making good progress,” stated Lopetegui. However, we’ll see tomorrow. Then, as with every member of our team, we will know more.
“We’ve encountered a few minor issues throughout our training sessions, but perhaps these can be resolved. We’ll just have to wait and watch for now as we’re not entirely sure.
During the current transfer window, London Stadium welcomed eight new players. Maximilian Kilmann and Guido Rodríguez were used from the beginning against Villa, while Jean-Clair Todibo, Crysencio Summerville, and Niclas Füllkrug all made appearances off the bench.Following an additional week of training, Lopetegui stated that all of the new arrivals are still feeling more at home in east London and that he anticipates each of them to have a significant influence throughout the campaign.
He continued, “They’ve all come at different times, and some have been here longer than others, so they’re all in different circumstances. They will gradually get to the point where they are prepared to play.
“We have to decide when it’s best to start them and when it’s best for them to enter the game and assist us in getting better. However, the season is lengthy, and each one will be crucial to us.
During his team’s Premier League game at Selhurst Park, Tomas Soucek, a midfielder for West Ham, reacted swiftly to save a Crystal Palace ball boy who was suffering from a possibly serious injury.
The Czech Republic international raced towards the away end to join West Ham fans in celebrating after scoring the game’s first goal after the hour.
The young ball boy who was sitting in front of the LED advertising board was crushed by a crowd of people as they raced towards the front of the stand to meet him.
Soucek and other worried West Ham players immediately stepped aside to help the young child, who was obviously shocked and disturbed by the incident, and helped him get out of the crowd.Medical personnel hurried over the field to give their assistance, and Soucek, Emerson, Jarrod Bowen, the West Ham captain, and others guided him to safety before turning the situation up to the stewards.
