Luton Town in advanced talks over €5m deal for Belgian prospect
Luton Town in advanced talks to sign Standard Liege defender Nathan Ngoy, according to Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri.
Luton Town are looking to add some more new faces to their ranks before the window slams shut.
The Hatters and their Championship rivals have until 11pm on August 30th to get the last bits of business done. It would not be a surprise if there is both incomings and outgoings at Kenilworth Road over the coming days.
One area Rob Edwards has been left somewhat short is at the back, but the recent signing of Cardiff City star Mark McGuinness will help that. However, they might not be done there, with a new link emerging.
Writing on X, Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri states Standard Liege youngster Nathan Ngoy is the subject of strong interest from Luton Town as they push to secure a deal for the defender.Advanced negotiations are taking place between the Hatters and the Jupiler Pro League side. A transfer worth close to €5m (around £4.2m) is being discussed, but Ngoy is happy with the personal terms of a long-term contract.
Extra depth
The signing of Ngoy would bulk out the defensive options at Luton Town a bit.
Things returned to a more normal backline against Portsmouth with Amari’i Bell, Teden Mengi and Reuell Walters starting but beyond those three, there isn’t much depth at the moment. Tom Holmes was on the bench along with youngsters Aidan Francis-Clarke and Christian Chiegozie while Joe Johnson started on the first day.
With Tom Lockyer working his way back and Reece Burke still not in contention, Ngoy would be a welcome signing for Luton Town. He’s one for the present and future having already been tested at a good level in Belgium.
He’s also represented his country at several youth levels, earning an U21s call-up last season too.
