Spurs academy product Leicester confirms signing for £20 million plus £5 million in add-ons as the promoted Foxes make their sixth summer arrival.

Oliver Skipp, a product of Tottenham Hotspur’s academy, will be joining Leicester City, the clubs have revealed.

The Foxes posted a photo of their new addition to X (previously Twitter) and wrote, “We have added to our midfield ranks with the transfer of Oliver Skipp.”

The player entered Ange Postecoglou’s plans since he was a homegrown talent, and it is understood that Steve Cooper, the new manager of Leicester, was eager to sign him.

According to earlier reports from Mail Sport, Leicester City was expected to pay a guaranteed £20 million plus an additional £5 million in add-ons for Skipp.

This agreement was reached just before Leicester City’s 2024–25 Premier League season opener against Spurs at King Power Stadium on Monday. The athlete, who inked a deal that will keep him until 2029, will be in the stands at the Foxes stadium tonight, according to a statement from Leicester.

According to Skipp on the club’s website, “I’m really excited to sign.” It feels like a good set of players and a decent bunch of people

.

“I have no doubt that we have a team that can compete in every game.” I’m incredibly excited to see what this bunch can do because there are so many talented players on the roster who have competed in the Premier League.

With the addition of Abdul Fatawu, Bobby Decordova-Reid, Michael Golding, Caleb Okoli, and Facundo Buonanotte, who signed on loan from Brighton, the midfielder’s transfer makes the Foxes’ sixth acquisition of the season.

Skipp was not a regular player in the Premier League last season, appearing in 21 games with just 694 minutes played overall. He started five of those games.

Spurs were willing to let their academy graduate go even though the 23-year-old midfielder only appeared in six of the seven preseason games.

In the 2018–19 campaign, Skipp received a promotion to the first team and made his Carabao Cup debut against West Ham United.

He played for Norwich City during the 2020–21 season, where he helped his team be promoted to the Premier League and was named to the Championship’s Team of the Year.He made 24 matches for the Under 21 squad but never made an appearance for England’s senior team.

‘Wishing you all the best for the future, Skippy!’ was the caption on a final message Tottenham issued on X.
