Sean Dyche to face FA action as furious Everton footage emerges

You can understand why Sean Dyche was not in the greatest of moods after Everton were beaten 3-0 by Brighton on Saturday (17 August).

His side had shown some pretty familiar failings in the disappointing reverse at Goodison Park, not least a clinical edge in the final third.

But, it was, of course the game’s biggest flashpoint that obviously earned the ire of the Toffees boss when addressing a news conference against the game.

Everton were initially awarded a penalty when Brighton skipper Lewis Dunk fouled Dominic Calvert-Lewin but referee Simon Hooper changed his mind after being sent to the pitchside monitor by the VAR.

What made things even more bizarre was the fact Hooper had to check a smaller, back-up monitor after technical issues with the main screen.

FA likely to take a dim view of Dyche comments after Everton v Brighton

Dyche was furious when addressing the matter, saying in footage shown by Toffees TV’s YouTube channel: (17 August): “I can’t work it out on the penalty

“He (the referee) makes a decision in a perfect viewing point and lo and behold is called over to overturn it.

“So what is the point of a high bar then? We’ve had meetings about it. Their player is out of control on the floor and drags his foot along with the top of his foot and the bottom of Dom’s so that clearly pulls him to the ground.

“That is contact in the box and we have all seen the tiniest things given as a penalty – someone treads on a toe and they give a penalty. So I think we are all confused by this.”

While you can understand Dyche’s frustration you have to think that the Football Association is likely to take a dim view of his words.
