The Rangers hero, Alan Hutton, is now one of Ange Postecoglou’s biggest fans. The former Ibrox,
Tottenham, and Scotland right-back has watched with fondness as the Australian manages his ex-side in North London. This is a relief after watching Postecoglou sweep five of the six available domestic trophies during his two year stint at Celtic before joining Spurs last summer. The hero didn’t know he’d feel about the Celtic favorite, but is loving him at Tottenham. In an interview with the Scottish Sun, Hutton relived his first encounter with the Tottenham manager. The Rangers legend acknowledged that, despite feeling like he was expected to HATE the Australian, he was actually very impressed. “Absolutely,” he responded when asked if he was pleased to see Postecoglou depart Celtic. He would have driven him to the airport when he was leaving, as Coisty mentioned!
“But I genuinely liked the guy. He really was a great guy. I collaborated with him on a few occasions at Premier Sports. The first occasion occurred during either the League Cup semifinal or championship game. When he emerged, he was obviously focused on his team. However, he approached me right away and said, “Alan, how are you doing? Nice to meet you. By the way, I had never spoken to him before! The Rangers team just walked by me and never said anything. “I started talking to him about Alistair Johnston, who had recently arrived at Celtic to replace Josip Juranovic. I asked him what Ali was like, and he said, ‘Alan, he’s just like you. He likes to get up and down and he’s aggressive””How does this guy know me?” was my first thinking. It was such a significant occasion that he took the time out of his day to come over and speak with me. I was like, “I love this guy, but right now I should really hate him.” I felt relieved when he moved on and joined the Spurs. I could finally get along with him.Depending on who you ask, Celtic has either finished a nice piece of work or overpaid by a significant margin.
Were nine goals in 19 games sufficient to warrant a possible £9.5 million expenditure? One that might make Adam Idah the most expensive signing in Celtic’s history, assuming the add-ons can be met?As long as he keeps up the style of his “immense” first tenure at Parkhead, the answer to that question is unquestionably yes. Idah’s success north of the line wasn’t solely due to his prolific goal scoring (he averaged one goal every two games while on loan from Norwich City), but also to the timing of those goals.
Stoppage time actions directed towards Motherwell and Hibernian. That thrilling winner in the Scottish Cup final versus Rangers, the Old Firm rivals. It’s possible that Brendan Rodgers’ team would have won none of the trophies at all in the end of the season had it not been for Idah’s intervention.Hence, Chris Sutton, a former Celtic striker who called the drawn-out discussions “baffling” in the past, is happy to have Idah back. It’s better late than never, after all.
Adam Idah’s agreement with Celtics excites Chris Sutton. “Idah’s return is a major positive,” Sutton told the Daily Record. Funny to see some fans whining about the £9.5 million charge after urging all summer for the Parkhead board to loosen its financial restrictions.
In the big picture, I don’t think that’s a lot of money. When you factor in inflation, the deals made in 2000 for people like me, Neil Lennon, and John Hartson would have been worth roughly £13 million.
“Given the inflation in football, I’d be worth roughly £150 million today!
