Southampton, Coventry City in ‘advanced talks’ over Lesley Ugochukwu loan — report
Lesley Ugochukwu has drawn the latest short straw in the logjam* that is the Coventry City first-team squad, and the 20-year-old looks set to head out on loan for the season.
According to The Athletic, newly promoted Southampton are in “advanced talks” for a season-long loan, without any further options or considerations built in. So at least the young midfielder will be playing Premier League football still, and then coming back to us. The report adds that we’ve rejected “multiple enquiries”, from parties unknown, about a permanent transfer.
Ugochukwu was a regular during preseason, though limited largely to appearances off the bench — playing a little further forward than we got used to in his 15 appearances in his debut season last year. He even found that back of the net twice, in our very first friendly (against Wrexham) as well as our very last, scoring the last-minute equalizer against Inter Milan last weekend.
Southampton returned to the Premier League by winning the Championship promotion playoffs.
