The newest teams to enter the race for RC Lens’ Elye Wahi are West Ham United and Leicester City.

West Ham and Leicester have positioned themselves to sign the striker this summer, according to L’Equipe.

The 21-year-old from Montpellier was signed by the Ligue 1 team in August 2023, with a contract that ran through 2028. In 36 games across all competitions, he has managed 12 goals and 4 assists.

According to the source, Wahi and the French club have decided to part ways during this window, thus his future there is probably not looking good. His future may lie in England, where Foxes and West Ham are interested in hiring him.

We reported on French rumors earlier this month, suggesting Chelsea is interested in signing him. Leicester and West Ham have also entered the transfer race, according to L’Equipe.
The Premier League trio is reportedly “now negotiating” in an attempt to get the frontman, and they want to present their opening bid within the “next few hours.”

The price that West Ham, Leicester, and Chelsea are anticipated to offer or Lens’ requirements to approve Wahi’s sale are not mentioned in L’Equipe.

Steve Cooper has been putting in a lot of work behind the scenes to get Leicester City ready for the 2024–2025 season after the team was promoted to the Premier League.

By supporting his new management in the transfer window, owner Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha has signed four first-team players thus far.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Caleb Okoli, Michael Golding, and Issahaku Fatawu have all relocated to King Power Stadium, and more players are anticipated.

For the upcoming season, Ben Doak is being considered for a loan from Liverpool to Leicester.

In an attempt to replace Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Leicester is expected to launch a “big-money offer” for Celtic player Reo Hatate. In preparation for a possible loan transfer with a buyout clause, Leicester has also initiated negotiations with Arsenal for Reiss Nelson.

The Midlands team now seems to have received a lift in its pursuit of a different objective. The transfer decision involving West Ham benefits Leicester City.
Cooper is lacking options up top since Jamie Vardy, who is 37 years old, and Kelechi Iheanacho, who signed a free transfer, left the team.

Jordan Ayew of Crystal Palace was linked to Leicester earlier this week, but the Foxes are also said to be interested in another player.

On July 30, the French publication L’Equipe revealed that West Ham United and Leicester had begun negotiations to recruit Elye Wahi, a striker for RC Lens.

But it looks like the Hammers have already shifted their focus to a striker.

This follows news from BBC Sport that West Ham and Borussia Dortmund had discussed signing Germany’s Niclas Fullkrug as a striker.

Wahi and Fullkrug are unlikely to be within West Ham’s budget, and even if they were, Julen Lopetegui would find it difficult to include both players in his starting lineup.

Leicester now seems to have a distinct advantage as a result.
