Leicester City want to poach yet another Celtic star
Leicester City will be back up in the
next season without Enzo Maresca but with plenty of ambition, and they are looking for some difference-makers in the midfield to help them stay up this time around, having lost James Maddison to Tottenham after their 2023 relegation.
So far, Leicester City have been focusing on one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership, Celtic attacking midfielder Matt O’Riley, who made more headlines this week by scoring the opener in Celtic’s 4-1 preseason drubbing of Maresca’s Chelsea.
Scoring goals is nothing new for O’Riley, who would be an ideal replacement for Maddison after notching 18 goals and 13 assists in the 2023/24 league season to go with 3 Champions League assists in 6 games.
O’Riley is a dream target for Leicester City, but the Foxes are also interested in another standout from the Celtic midfield – a player who may be even more difficult to pry from Scotland’s powerhouse club.
Leicester City are interested in making a big offer for Celtic midfielder Reo Hatate this summer to make some noise before their Premier League return.
Furthermore, McGowan reports that, sensibly, Celtic will not even entertain a transfer offer for Hatate if O’Riley is sold. But to this point, no legitimate transfer offer has come across the desk for O’Riley.
