Exclusive: Luton Town to announce Shandon Baptiste signing after agreement

Shandon Baptiste will sign a four-year contract at Luton Town and an announcement is expected later on Friday, sources have told Football Insider.

Luton are now putting the finishing touches to finalise the deal at their training ground after reaching a full agreement with the player.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed that Luton have agreed a deal to sign Baptiste on a free transfer following his departure from Brentford.

The club moved quickly to swoop after Baptiste, 26, saw his contract at Brentford expire on 1 July with no new offer tabled.

Luton Town to confirm signing of Shandon Baptiste

Luton have entered the market to sign a new midfielder after Ross Barkley, Luke Berry and Albert Sambi Lokonga all left the club earlier this summer.

Baptiste ranked at the top of their list of targets due to his experience of winning promotion from the Championship, as well as playing Premier League football.

That experience meant that, upon being notified of his availability on a free transfer, Rob Edwards’ side moved quickly to get a deal over the line.

The midfielder joined Brentford from Oxford United in 2020 and played a key role in their promotion and eventual stabilisation in the top flight.

He featured 78 times for the West London club, with 55 of those appearances coming in the Premier League.

However, after making just 12 appearances last season and only two of those coming from the start, the decision was made to depart after four years.
