Leeds United and Luton Town hit with £22m blow as new PSR update drops for 2024/25

Leeds United have been dealt a £22million blow when it comes to PSR as the new accounting year begins, according to Joe Donnohue.

Writing on their website (2 July), the Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reports that the club are permitted to lose a maximum of £61million in the next three-year cycle from July 2022 to June 2025 after their 2022/23 accounts reflected a £34million loss.

But in a blow to the club that is a £22million drop in what they were allowed to lose last year, after they failed to earn promotion back to the Premier League.

Leeds United must get back to the Premier League ASAP

Most people feel as though the Whites’ best chance at getting back to the Premier League was to get promoted at the first attempt, because the squad will never be as strong as that again.

Failing to do so with players like Illan Meslier, Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon, Archie Gray, Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto is quite the achievement, and now they must expect some of those will leave.

In fact, Gray has already moved on and the expectation is that Summerville will go at some point too, which will immediately make Daniel Farke’s job harder.

But the Whites will be aware that if they don’t get promoted again then their parachute payments lessen once again, and whichever players do stay will likely move on.

It’s almost like a final chance for the Whites, and they now have a smaller budget and worse squad to get the job done. Any extra cash would have been great, but at least they’re now aware of what they’re working with for the upcoming 12 months.

In other Leeds news, the club have been handed a major boost in their bid to keep Crysencio Summerville after a £33m development emerged.
