Report: Spurs player pulls out of international duty due to injury

Lucas Bergvall is heading to Tottenham Hotspur very soon, but the youngster is not jetting off on international duty with Sweden this month as he has picked up an injury.

Tottenham pulled off one of the most exciting transfers of the January window when they snapped up Bergvall from under the noses of Barcelona.

The Swedish teenager has been earmarked as one of the top emerging talents in Europe, and is joining Spurs on the back of a successful campaign with Djurgardens where he scored six goals and added five assists in 19 games (Transfermarkt).

He is expected to go straight into Ange Postecoglou‘s first-team squad when he arrives on July 1, 2024 (Football Insider).

However, Alasdair Gold has stated it may take up to six months for Bergvall to truly become accustomed to the Premier League.

Unfortunately, Bergvall’s summer is not off to a good start, as he picked up an injury at the end of the Swedish season, and is now unable to play in the upcoming international friendlies for his country’s Under-21 side.

The Swedish FA announced on Monday that Bergvall had withdrawn from the Under-21 team that was due to play England on June 7 and Croatia on June 11.

Little is revealed about the nature of his injury at this stage. Brommapojkarna’s Wilmer Odefalk has been called up to replace Bergvall.

Spurs Web Opinion

Hopefully, this is nothing too serious. We want Bergvall to hit the ground running when he arrives at Spurs so that he’s ready for his introduction to the Premier League. I have high hopes for him, and while I’m trying not to get carried away, I really do think Bergvall will be a special player once he acclimatises to the English game.
