Tottenham in hunt to sign Morten Hjulmand

Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs showing keen interest in signing Luton Town midfielder Morten Hjulmand.

According to journalist, Ben Jacobs (21 June), Spurs have been tracking the 24-year-old defensive midfielder who scored a “superb” goal against England in the Euro 2024 Championships on Thursday (20 June).

Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona join Tottenham in the race to sign the Sporting midfielder. He has a release clause of around £67 million and Ruben Amorim has asked for assurance that the player won’t be sold unless his release clause is met.

Spurs could be looking to sign a new midfielder this summer, with Ange Postecoglou looking to make some serious changes in the middle of the park.

One Dane midfielder to replace another?

Postecoglou is looking to offload some of the club’s fringe players to make room for new additions. In midfield, players such as Bryan Gil, Giovani Lo Celso, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be allowed to leave the north London club.

It will be interesting to see if Hjulmand replaces his compatriot Hojbjerg, who is being chased by a host of clubs in Italy and elsewhere. The former Southampton midfielder has been a regular member of Spurs over the years, but Hjulmand would be a terrific replacement for him.

There are even suggestions that Tottenham could sell Yves Bissouma this summer. The 27-year-old midfielder joined from Brighton in the summer of 2022, but he has struggled to live up to the expectations at the club.

It looks unlikely that Daniel Levy will be willing to spend such a high transfer fee for the Danish midfielder, but if Spurs manage to offload some of their players, then they can make a bold attempt to bring him to the London club.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs are looking to sign in-demand Italy defender this summer.
