Coventry City ‘close’ to £4m deal as fresh forest Green Rovers transfer claim made
Coventry City have agreed a deal for New Zealand international midfielder Marko Stamenic, sources have told Football Insider.
The 22-year-old has been on Coventry’s radar for a while and they have agreed a fee in the region of £4million with Red Star Belgrade for the holding midfielder.
Nottingham Forest have been linked with the midfielder in recent weeks, but it is their East Midlands rivals who have won the race for his signature.
Coventry have made midfield reinforcements one of their top priorities this summer and Stamenic’s arrival will come as a major boost for Mark Robins’ side.
The Wellington-born star featured regularly for Red Star as they lifted the Serbian title in the 2023-24 campaign.
He made 35 appearances across all competitions, notching two goals and one assist.

Stamenic started in 28 of those outings – including in a 3-1 away loss against Man City in the Champions League.
The 22-year-old, who is under contract in Serbia’s capital until June 2027, primarily plays as a central midfielder but has also featured in a holding role.
He started his career in his native New Zealand before leaving for FC Copenhagen in 2020.
Stamenic only joined Red Star on a free transfer last summer (2023) but is already set to make the step to England after just 12 months in Serbia.
