SKY CONFIRM: Tottenham Hotspur have Struck an agreement with West Ham For…

Gareth Southgate really impressed by ‘very good’ £60m player Tottenham are trying to sign

England manager Gareth Southgate has now been praising a player who Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly trying to recruit this summer.

Ange Postecoglou’s ambitious start in north London will mean very little if Spurs don’t give his plans the necessary backing this summer.

Tottenham are back in Europe, albeit not the Champions League, and their project has sufficient pull to attract players who can improve their XI in several areas this summer.

A new full-back is definitely needed, with TBR Football exclusively sharing Spurs’ interest in Stade Rennais’ Guela Doue on Monday.

Postecoglou doesn’t currently have cover for Destiny Udogie or Pedro Porro, especially given that Emerson Royal could leave this summer.

And considering that Spurs’ manager also wants a new centre-back as well as further attacking signings, Daniel Levy will certainly be hard at work.

That being said, one of Tottenham’s key targets is considered to be Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, who has just enjoyed a remarkable campaign.

And having started for England against Bosnia and Herzegovina last night, Eze will have certainly caught the attention of those at Tottenham, as well as Southgate.

Gareth Southgate lauds the ‘power’ of Tottenham target Eberechi Eze

Speaking to Channel 4 after Eze played 63 minutes last night, Southgate spoke about both his and Cole Palmer’s performance, who was eventually replaced by James Maddison.

Southgate said: “Very good. I thought they both played with freedom.

“Ebe has got lovely movement to go past people in the centre of the pitch, he has power, so really happy with what he did.

“I thought Cole a couple of times was trying to be a bit too precise, trying to get a touch to open up the shot, when maybe he could have got his shot away a bit earlier a couple of times and got a couple himself.”

Of course, Tottenham fans watching on may have been imagining how Eze could look in their midfield next season, should a reported £60m move come to fruition.

There’s no guarantee that Eze leaves Palace this summer, particularly given how exciting Oliver Glasner’s time at the club has begun, but should he depart then moving to Spurs does seem a logical next step.

Eze appears to be the perfect Postecoglou player, a tactically aware and fluid profile, who has the maverick type quality the manager loves.

All that being said, Tottenham are now thought to be poised for a £137m FFP boost this summer.
