JUSTIN FIELDS ON POSSIBILITY OF RETURNING KICKS: “NOT HERE TO DO THAT”

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields has put an end to the rumors that he might return kicks for the franchise in 2024. During a recent interview with Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Fields addressed the possibility of playing on special teams and said that he’s “not here to do that. “

Back in early May, Pittsburgh’s running back, Jaylen Warren, said that Steelers’ special teams coordinator Danny Smith was considering the possibility of giving Fields kick return duties, looking to exploit his explosiveness and ability to make plays using his legs. However, it appears that Warren actually misinterpreted Smith’s comments.

“Coach Danny was basically just trying to send a message that no matter who you are, you could be on special teams. He just used that as an example,” Fields explained.

Justin Fields arrived in Pittsburgh in March in a trade from the Chicago Bears. He is currently slated to be the backup quarterback for the team behind veteran Russell Wilson.

Fields, who was the 11th overall pick in 2011, started 38 games with the Bears during his three seasons in Chicago and went 10−28. He threw for 6,674 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 30 picks while also adding 2,220 yards on the ground and 14 rushing TDs.
