West Ham United open talks with agents of ‘Breathtaking’ Marcus Edwards as £25m transfer update

West Ham have held talks with the representatives of Sporting CP forward Marcus Edwards about a summer transfer worth up to £25m, according to Record.

Writing on their website (1 June), the news outlet report that the 25-year-old playmaker is keen to return to London after falling down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim.

Sporting are looking to earn between £17-25.5million for the English talent, but his former club Tottenham also have interest and have a 35% sell-on clause which could see them make a move at a discounted price.

West Ham want to boost their attacking options

The Hammers need to improve their attacking options for the upcoming season, and attacker Edwards seems like a potentially perfect fit to come in and make an immediate impact.

Edwards has shone on several occasions over the years for the Portuguese champions, even being compared to Lionel Messi after his “breathtaking” dribble against Tottenham in the Champions League.

He has plenty of top-flight experience despite his young age, while he’s also versatile and capable of playing on both wings and centrally too.

Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma have already left the club while Maxwel Cornet is likely to move on too, meaning wide options should be a priority for Julen Lopetegui.

But with a deal close for Luis Guilherme [Fabrizio Romano, 31 May] it’s possible that the club have moved for him instead, but this is a deal to keep an eye on as the summer goes on.

In other West Ham news, Fabrizio Romano has issued a warning to the club as personal terms agreed for brand new transfer.
