Stoke City ‘working’ on deal to sign ex-Sheffield United, Everton and Huddersfield Town man on loan

Stoke City are reportedly working on a deal to sign former Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town star Conor Coady.

The 31-year-old spent back-to-back seasons in Yorkshire, first joining Sheffield United on loan from Liverpool for the 2013/14 season. He left Liverpool permanently after his Bramall Lane stint and signed for Huddersfield, spending the 2014/15 campaign in West Yorkshire.

He was a defensive-minded midfielder during his time in Yorkshire but later blossomed into one of the Premier League’s most reliable centre-backs. Coady may now be past his prime but reports have suggested he is still a man in demand.

According to TEAMtalk, Stoke are looking to recruit Coady on loan from Leicester City. The Liverpool academy graduate was a bit-part player as Leicester won the Championship title to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

He is reportedly seen as someone who could be a crucial addition for the Potters as they reshape their squad for the 2024/25 season. He would bring a wealth of experience, having won the Championship with both Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester.

The report claims several clubs in the second tier have Coady on their radar but Stoke are thought to be in a good position to land his signature. Sheffield United were linked with a swoop for Coady last year but a return to Bramall Lane never materialised.

Stoke have also been linked with Burnley forward Jay Rodriguez, who they are said to be battling Huddersfield for the services of. He is out of contract at Burnley but has been offered a new deal by the Clarets.
