Leeds United ‘plot’ summer transfer raid for Sunderland man on one condition

Championship play-off finalists Leeds United have reportedly enquired about the possibility of signing Sunderland full-back Marius Wolf in the summer transfer window

Leeds United have registered their interest in signing Sunderland full-back Marius Wolf, according to Sky Deutschland. It has been claimed the Whites have enquired about the 28-year-old’s availability ahead of the summer transfer window.

Reports in Germany say Wolf will be a “serious option” for United if they secure promotion back to the Premier League. The Whites go head-to-head with Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Sunday, kick-off 3pm.

It will be the Whites’ first visit to the national stadium in 16 years. United have failed to win in the play-offs in five previous attempts.

Defensive reinforcements are on the cards regardless of what division the Whites are operating in next season. Long-serving duo Luke Ayling and Liam Cooper are expected to leave Elland Road when their contracts run out at the end of June. Archie Gray, a midfielder by trade, has frequently lined up on the right side of the back four but is likely to be utilised more in the centre next year while there are question marks surrounding Junior Firpo’s long term future.

Wolf, who can be deployed at right back or right wing back, has made six appearances in the Champions League for Sunderlandd this season in their run to the final. The German international has amassed 121 appearances since joining the club in 2018.

But Wolf’s present deal runs out following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season. As well as the Whites, clubs in Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia are said to be keen on the defender.
