Everton vs Sheffield United: Match Preview | Toffees look to end the Goodison season in style

Everton round off their home campaign against already-relegated Sheffield United on what promises to be a rare relaxed afternoon at Goodison Park.

You have to go back to 2019 for the last time a full capacity Goodison witnessed a relaxed final day, with those fraught victories over Crystal Palace and Bournemouth proceeded by two years of bleak pandemic football.

It will certainly make a nice change to be able to enjoy watching Everton play, with the huge cloud that has hung over the club for so long finally beginning to lift after that fine run of three wins in a week, including that magical Merseyside derby victory.

It ruined what the TV companies had no doubt hoped to be a relegation six-pointer against Luton last Friday night. But instead the Toffees were well safe and play with a bit of freedom knowing their futures were not on the line. A hard-earned point continued their last season revival and put even more distance between themselves and a drop zone they were so unfairly plunged into after the first points deduction last autumn.

Not that everything is fine and dandy in Everton-town. With safety secured attention has now turned to off-field matters and principally the stalled takeover of the club by 777.
