Leicester City could sign free agents this summer to bolster their squad, especially if they’re set to return to the Premier League. The Foxes’ lead at the top of the table has dropped from 12 points to three, but

automatic promotion is still in their grasp. Anything less than promotion will be viewed as a failure, and should they return to the top flight, they’ll need reinforcements to keep up with the competition.

Willem Vardy’s contract is up at the end of the season, and the Foxes will need to replace their top scorer. If they do complete a return to the top-flight, they could look to sign free agents themselves – especially with FFP in mind.

According to the Telegraph, the summer could be affected by a ruling on FFP, which could make the free agent market a priority for the Foxes. Here are five players Leicester could target in the summer:

If he is not offered a new contract, Vardy will leave Leicester after a remarkable 12 years in the club’s top flight. Vardy is likely to go down in history as the best player to ever wear a Foxes shirt, so whoever replaces him will have a huge task on their hands.

One name that may come to mind is Che Adams, who is out of contract at Southampton at the season’s end. The Scotland international has been with the club for four seasons, scoring 31 goals in that time.

Having grown up in Leicester, Adams has always wanted to play for the club. He told The Guardian in an interview in 2019 that he had been rejected by the club “four or five times” as a kid.

“You never give up hope,” Adams said, “so if Leicester take him this summer, he’ll have finally achieved one of his dreams.”

Leicester are on the brink of losing Ndidi when his deal expires in the summer, and a good replacement for him would be Josh Brownhill.

According to the Leicester Mercury in December, Maresca wanted to sign Brownhill in January. The Burnley skipper has been a rock-solid performer for the club since signing in 2020 and is out of contract this summer.

He has become the heart and soul of Kompany’s new-look team and is one of the most solid Premier League players.

If Leicester bounce back, it would be a great move for both parties.

He would be a key part of an England trio that would be able to compete with most Premier League mid-fielders.

Burnley are set to be relegated in May and with that in mind, Brownhill would want to remain in the top flight.

It is reported that there is an option for him to extend his Burnley contract, which would mean he is not a free agent.
