Latest Leeds United transfers news and rumours as the January transfer window prepares to open

Former Leeds United coach Gus Poyet has backed the Whites to clinch promotion back to the Premier League this season after the ‘great decision’ to appoint Daniel Farke last summer.

Leeds head into Saturday’s Championship ‘six-pointer’ with promotion rivals Ipswich Town knowing that a win would cut the gap between themselves and the Tractor Boys in second to just seven points. Farke’s men have a tough festive spell ahead of them, but Poyet, who worked under Dennis Wise at Elland Road in 2006-07, has backed them to come on strong in the second half of the season.

And he feels the appointment of Farke was an excellent move by the new Leeds United owners, with his experience of getting sides promoted out of the division sure to be a vital factor in the coming months.

“I think they will go up, they have a better chance alongside Leicester this season for sure,” Poyet told NewBettingSites.uk of Leeds’ chances. “I’m happily surprised with Ipswich though. I think it’s unbelievable what they’ve done, but I think 46 games for them is maybe a bit too long to maintain.”

“From the moment Farke was appointed though, I think Leeds United had a better chance [than Ipswich] of being promoted to the Premier League.

“You won’t hear this from me a lot, but I think Leeds made a great decision with the coach. When you take the characteristics of a coach that has already won the Championship twice, you have to say it’s a good decision.

“It’s something that everyone knows works. He knows the Championship, he knows how to win and now he’s at Leeds United. It was a top decision from the Leeds board.”
