Calvert-Lewin accepts blame for defeat at Luton but expects ‘full result’ vs. Bournemout

The striker said on the official website of the Merseyside club (2 October) that the team were “disappointed” after losing 2-1 to Luton Town, who are fighting for survival in the Championship, and added that the team, including him, were “lacklustre”.

Looking for their first win at home this season, the Toffees host the Cherries at Goodison on Saturday 7 October, with Andrei Iraola’s side just one point behind.

We are disappointed and frustrated that we did not perform to the level we expected against Luton. We were confident going into the match, but we were punished for missing set-pieces which made it very difficult for us to regain control of the game. We had opportunities, but we were not clinical or ruthless enough throughout the first half.

We are still in the early stages of the season, so this is not a time to panic. I want to be clear that we fully expected to perform better against Luton, and we expected to get a better result. It just wasn’t our day.

The defeat at Luton Town was a blow to the confidence of the Toffees, who had won two in a row for the first time { transfer window} in over a year. The Hatters proved to be a rude awakening to the Toffees’ complacency, but they have a home game against Bournemouth to look forward to as they look to increase their points total.
