Championship: Maja ignites West Brom to defeat Plymouth led by Wayne Rooney

With a thrilling 1-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle on Saturday, West Bromwich Albion maintained their strong play in the Sky Bet Championship thanks to a masterful goal from Josh Maja, according to Soccernet.ng.

Maha, who has been a standout player this season, scored the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute for his sixth goal of the year as Albion extended their unbeaten streak and maintained their top spot in the standings.

Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth team attempted to duplicate their stunning victory over former leaders Sunderland, but they were unable to get past a strong West Brom defense captained by Nigeria’s Semi Ajayi.

West Brom’s strong defensive effort resulted in their third straight clean sheet, solidifying their leadership in the Championship rankings.

After six games played under Carlos Corberán, the Baggies have now won five of them, and they appear to be in a strong position to advance.

Their next test will be against Sheffield Wednesday, where they hope to keep up their current winning streak.

Newcastle is defeated by Fulham, led by Iwobi and Bassey.
Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey played key roles in Fulham’s 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at Craven Cottage.

After a lengthy losing streak to the Magpies, Fulham’s offensive play was fluid and they took the lead early in the second half thanks to goals from Raul Jimenez, Emile Smith-Rowe, and Iwobi, who joined Fulham from Everton in 2023. Harvey Barnes gave Newcastle a response in the 46th minute, but Fulham’s defense held strong and Reiss Nelson added a late third in stoppage time to complete the victory.

Iwobi participated in the entire game, and Bassey stood out for his strong defensive work as Fulham won three crucial points.

In Spurs’ triumph over Brentford, Solanke opens his account.
In a 3-1 victory over Brentford at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Dominic Solanke scored the first goal of his Tottenham Hotspur career.

Bryan Mbeumo of Brentford scored first, netting in under a minute. However, Solanke equalized in the eighth minute, taking advantage of a James Maddison shot that was blocked.

After Maddison added a third goal late in the second half, Brennan Johnson’s goal in the 28th minute gave Spurs the lead.

After quieting his detractors following a difficult start to life in north London, Solanke—who had signed for a club record fee—was replaced in the 88th minute to a standing ovation.

With this victory, Tottenham’s stellar Premier League debut under Ange Postecoglou is maintained.
