West Ham United’s 2024/25 Premier League season begins this weekend, with the Hammers opening the new season with a home fixture against Aston Villa.
Julen Lopetegui’s side head into the Saturday evening kick-off after a pre-season which has proven a mixed affair, with the Irons beating RC Celta de Vigo in the Betway Cup, National League outfit Dagenham & Redbridge and drawing with Hungarian champions Ferencváros.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, who are preparing for a first season in the UEFA Champions League since 1983 under the tutelage of Unai Emery, have also had a busy pre-season schedule, with victories over Walsall, Spartak Trnava and Atletico Bilbao.
Six spaces and 19 points separated the Irons and Villa last season, and both will be eager to make the best possible start to the new campaign in east London.
